– With The Fam is a Chicago-based organization that brings communities together through vibrant performing arts showcases. We seek funding to support our two annual signature events that unite diverse neighborhoods and demographics across Chicago and its suburbs through different forms of artistic expression. Our primary focus is strengthening community bonds through the arts, our showcases also create platforms for dialogue around important issues like mental health awareness and violence prevention. Proceeds from our events support emerging grassroots organizations focused on enhancing Chicago’s community fabric, including those addressing mental health and violence prevention initiatives. Through these biannual showcases, we not only create meaningful connections but also amplify the work of local organizations building a stronger Chicago.

The Challenge

Chicago’s diverse communities face persistent barriers to meaningful connection and dialogue, particularly across neighborhood, cultural, and generational lines. This disconnection is exacerbated by limited platforms for creative expression and community engagement, especially in areas where violence prevention and mental health resources are scarce. While numerous grassroots organizations work to address these challenges, they often struggle to secure consistent funding and broader community visibility. Traditional community programs frequently create rigid, formal environments that maintain social barriers and prevent authentic engagement. These conditions have left many communities isolated from one another, perpetuating misunderstanding and hindering opportunities for collective growth.

Our Approach

Through the universal language of arts and performance, events like With The Fam’s showcases create unique spaces where people naturally let their defenses down. In these environments, diverse groups connect authentically across social, cultural, and geographic boundaries. These arts-based gatherings serve multiple purposes: they foster genuine connections between community members, inspire attendees to actively support one another, create platforms for crucial conversations about mental health and violence prevention, and generate financial support for emerging grassroots organizations working to strengthen Chicago’s social fabric.
